Digital camera for Mandrake 10.1

I need to buy a cheap (relatively: under $250) camera. What is the EASIEST dig. cam. to hook up to Mandrake 10.1 running on a dell 2100? (I have gphoto installed)
Tanx!

just pick out a model (eg online) and check the Hardware compatability list that linuxquestions.org keeps. http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/

welcome to LQ
in addition to previous post
most camera support usb mass storage device,
that is the camera is accessed as a HD

10.1 is getting old, so you may consider 2007.1
It will have much more recent gphoto and the like

Must read (this one I knew about)
http://www.teaser.fr/~hfiguiere/linux/digicam.html

and your friend google should have sent you there
and you can follow the tracks

Problem solved !

Thank you for all the help. I now have a solution.

The HP camera people told me they do NOT intend to support linux, unlike HP printers, so I bought a NIKON L-10 for $110 via internet. It's a wonderful camera for such a price.

I haven't made it talk to Gphoto or FLphoto, but it runs fine under Digikam in PTP mode. I used configure/autodetect to set up the interface
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NIKON L-10 with Mandrake 10.1
Attach USB connector
Start Digikam (mine is ver 0.6.2)
Turn on Nikon L-10 in "scene" mode
Camera: PTP mode
Select pix & download by pressing OK on camera
effective xfr speed abt 1 MBd
Turn off camera and pull USB conn.
DONE
