Did Openssl get updated?

I just tried to install openssl-0.9.7d ( I didnt really need it but Im just doing it to learn).
Anyway.. the install was very smooth. but when I run "/usr/bin/openssl version" I still get the old version.

Any suggestions?

By default openssl gets installed in the /usr/local tree if no prefix at install time
is given.
Try checking in /usr/local/bin or /usr/local/openssl/bin
