I also want to give my windows partion the kick

The problem is my MBR is on the windows partition.

Here is fdisk -l

Disk /dev/hda: 40.0 GB, 40020664320 bytes
16 heads, 63 sectors/track, 77545 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 = 516096 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 20325 10243768+ c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/hda2 20326 20528 102312 83 Linux
/dev/hda3 20529 75464 27687744 83 Linux
/dev/hda4 75465 77545 1048824 f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hda5 75465 77545 1048792+ 82 Linux swap

How can delete the windows partition without destroying the MBR or how can I rebuild the MBR afterwards?

I plan to use the windows partition as /home

Thanks,

1. You can delete the win partition and then format it for linux to use

2. Yes i believe you can

3. Yes you can

You should be able to do ALL of this with "diskdrake" which you will find in the control centre. It gives you a nice graphical representation of the partitions.

Just as a precaution, I advise that you read the documentation for diskdrake first, it should tell you all you need to know. You will find the documentation under "start-documentation-mandrake documentation ". If it`s not there, it will be on your install disks.

cheers

QTparted will do it.

First boot into windows and remove anything you dont want and havent used.

Then Defrag.

exit windows and boot linux.

start qtparted, hang on, qtparted ......http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat...6.rpm.html....

to download.

depends on 2 others.-disk 1 and disk 4. on MDK 10.1

.......http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i586.rpm.html

.......http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i586.rpm.html

Type ...qtparted... in console to resize, (qtparted shows shaded areas where existing file system is.) and modify existing filesystems/partitions.

Hope this helps.
