Delete lilo from MBR?

Installed MDK 10.1 and thought I would have an option to install lilo on a floppy instead it was installed on the MBR. How I get the MBR back to where it was?

Removing LILO
Should the day ever come and you want to remove Linux and LILO (perish the though) you'll need something to make LILO totally go away. The easiest way to do this is to use DOS/Win95's fdisk program. You'll need to use the flag that replaces the master boot record (/mbr).

C:\STUFF>fdisk /mbr

Unfortunately, fdisk doesn't give you any output to tell you it did it correctly. Just reboot and you'll go straight into DOS/Win95, with lilo all removed.

it works, i tried it before.

Is this true ???.
Thought I'd read lilo had an uninstall option (-u summit like that).
Should be in the doco somewhere.

I haven't used lilo in years, but was going to check the code to see what this did. Still on my "to do" list.

I haven't been able to boot into MDK. Get as far as login then it says something like "bash:[bchivers$localhost$] command not recognized " Not exactly what it says,I can't remember.

Guess you have 2 options depending on your needs;
- if you want to keep MDK, and boot Windows from lilo, you'll need to update the lilo conf. Probably means booting the Mandy CD and running from recovery mode. Sorry don't know Mandrake that well, there will be plenty of posts here on LQ - a search will find them.
- if you want to get XP back, and forget about Mandake for now, boot the XP CD, get into resource centre, and run fixmbr - it's equivalent to he advice above from iggy_mon

Whenever I do a dualboot pc, I allways put Linux on it's own harddrive seperate from windows AND make the linux drive the first one in the system. This leaves the MBR on the windows drive untouched.
I explain more on this page:
