Customise KDE panel?

I'm currently customising KDE 3.2 and am greatly enjoying the nice icons available through kde-look.org. But there's a couple of things that are annoying me that I wonder if anyone has a solution to. Mandrake (10.1) has the Mandrake star icon instead of the KDE cog icon on the start menu - how can this icon be changed?! Also, I am not able to change the default desktop access icon (no 'properties' available when right-clicking).

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mats.

Hi there,

Somewhere on your system is a folder with your icons, something like .../kde/share/icons/(youriconfolder). Find the one that mandrake is using for the start button and either delete it or change the name to something else. Then change the name of the icon you want to use to that name.

1) go to .kde/share/icons and get into the folder of the icon theme that you are currently using
2) go into each icon size folder (16x16, 32x32, 48x48 e.t.c)
3) go into the "filesystems" folder and copy kmenu.png
4) paste it in the "apps" folder and rename it to "menuk-mdk.png"
5) reload your icon theme in Kcontrol

You can do the same for the show desktop icon. Using the same instructions like above copy "desktop.png" and rename it to "desktop-mdk.png".

Hope it works fine for you :)

Fantastic! Thanks for the replies - got it sorted. Except for one thing - how can I get rid of the blue background behind the (transparent) startmenu button?

Cheers,
Mats.

I'm not using KDE right now so can't give you the exact path. Seach on the panel configuration menu in Kcontrol or by right clicking an empty space on your panel and selecting configure panel. The option to change the background color of the kmenu button is there somewhere and I think you need to set the color to "none".

Thanks! It's all the way I want it now (for now at least :) ) and I'm happy!

Cheers,
Mats.
