cups error on mandriva spring one 2007

i use mandriva spring one 2007 and i got a problem with cups. the cups is not starting. then i install cups from ubuntu 7.04 which convert with alien and i got message like this :

/usr/sbin/alternatives is needed by cups-1.2.10-10.fc7.i386

what is that mean ?

Ubuntu does not look in the same place (absolute address) for the config files.

If you have fedora, stay with fedora, you get what I mean?

What Glenn was trying to say is that if you are using Mandriva, you should use Mandriva packages because packages from other distributions will return errors similar to the ones you are getting above. That is because each distribution does things just a little bit differently, and that id what makes them different.

I'm still learning

Hi, the repo is a bit old now, and is no longer supported.

But you may access the 2007.1 (spring) repo from here....

http://mirror.fis.unb.br/pub/linux/M...ficial/2007.1/

Select the architecture you require, i586=32bit, x86_64=64bit.

If you have no joy there try rpm search webpage.

http://rpm.pbone.net/

Select Advanced search and select 2007 Mandriva, then insert the package name or part of it.

I got your email, thank you,

It may be better to use LQ as your questions will get better coverage from all viewers.

Cheers, Glenn

Because Mandriva Linux 2007 is no longer supported, unless you hav a compelling reason to use Mandriva 2007, you would be best served to get the current release - Mandriva Linux 2009.1 (Spring), or in a month or so, the new release - Mandriva Linux 2010.0.

When a distribution release version passes its end of life, as Mandriva Linux 2007 has done, updates are no longer developed for it, so any new security weaknesses are not fixed. The release may have been secure when it passed its end of life, but new security threats are discovered daily, and it is this type of weakness that is not fixed for such releases.
