crappy fonts (after 9.2 installation)
After installation from scratch instead of upgrade, som problems with fonts occured. I didn't have this problem in 9.1.
As you can see on the picture the font in one of the windows is really crappy. It isn't just in Firebird but a whole bunch of other programs as well.

My FontPath in XF86Config-4 looks like this if it helps:
Code:
FontPath "unix/:-1"

I have had this problem in both linux and winblows b4
What is happening is your fonts are being rendered smaller then what is the best size for them to be displayed at. See bitmapped fonts tend to get jagged and rough like that if they are displayed to small. I would suggest incresing the font size of the one you are using or try another font all together.

I usually keep a font folder somewhere. If you find one you like, throw it into the folder and go to config->kde->look and feel->fonts and run the installer, then just select the new one.
You can add it to star office, etc if you do this for the directory with your fonts:
cd ~/yourfontdir
ttmkfdir > fonts.scale
mkfontdir
chkfontpath -a ~/yourfontdir
The second method will not make the fonts available to kde though.
There are multitudes of free fonts available on the web, just do a search and find some you like.

A reinstallation solved the problem. Not the best way maybe, but it works.

Here is the solution:
Edit the /etc/sysconfig/i18n sile and remove all .UTF-8 string. Thes login, logout, ant from this point on gtk 1.2 fonts should look good. . FINALLY!

Belegdol:
There were NO such strings.
I did a clean installation. i have /home on a partition by itself so it just takes a few minutes to have the system up and running again.

Maybe you are just using UTF-8 encoding. Then you should have been edited the /etc/gtk/gtkrc.utf-8 file to change the default gtk-1.2 font.

This is how my i18n looks like now, and it works perfect.
Code:
LANG=en_US.iso885915
LC_PAPER=en_US
SYSFONTACM=iso15
LC_CTYPE=en_US
LC_COLLATE=en_US
LC_NUMERIC=en_US
LC_NAME=en_US
LC_MEASUREMENT=en_US
LANGUAGE=en_US:en
LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_US
LC_TIME=en_US
SYSFONT=lat0-16
LC_MESSAGES=en_US
LC_ADDRESS=en_US
LC_MONETARY=en_US
LC_TELEPHONE=en_US
This is how my gtkrc.utf-8 looks like.. don really know what the code means though.
Code:
style "gtk-default" {
fontset = "-*-Nimbus Sans L-medium-r-normal--14-*-*-*-p-*-iso10646-1,\
-*-clearlyu-medium-r-normal--17-*-*-*-p-*-iso10646-1,\
-*-r-*-iso10646-1,*"
}
class "GtkWidget" style "gtk-default"
Anyways.. everything works the way i want it to now
