Question couldn't find program .....my ar$e

I've downloaded a few programs, such as pingus (lemmings clone) epsxe (psx emulator) and a few others. Ive downloaded the binarys, so apparently should run straight away.

I extracted the files to their own directory, double clicked the executable (in kde) and recieved a message "couldn't find program", but I can see it and its properties say its an executable.

I then "su'd" in konsole, moved to the directory, the files showed up with 'ls'. So I tried to run the exectuable from konsole (as root) and still says it cant find it...

Im new to linux so Im still not to sure what I'm doing yet.

Im running Mandrake 9.2 with KDE

thanks for any help

The programs should be installed to /usr/bin (only the executables). Then you should be able to run them. Another way is to run them from Konsole not as the program name, but as '. program' (the . is important).

I moved the binary to to the bin folder.... and it worked.

So if the binary lives there, where does all the other stuff go? like the config and plugin directories etc. for epsxe and the likes of?

On a Slackware system (which is possibly much different from a Mandy system) configuration files are put in /etc and plugin stuff or media is usually put in /usr/share/program-name.
Sorry for this being so late; exams and a job snuck up out of nowhere.
