Conflict errors trying to install C Complier

While trying to install a C compiler via RPM, I receive error... "file/usr/bin/pth-config conflicts between attempted installs of libpth20-devel-2.0.0-1 mdk and libpth14-devel-1.1.1-4 mdk". I get about 10 of these errors with a different path but all the same libpth's.
Can someone decifer this and offer a solution?

You may have multiple versions of the compiler or some other package installed. Use this command:
rpm -qa | sort | less
to get a list of every installed package. If you have multiple versions of a package then use:
rpm -e packagename
to get rid of them. Keep issuing the -e command until it says "packagename not installed".
Use:
rpm --nodeps -e packagename
if necessary.

Then install the latest version of that package.

Thanks jailbait but I still have a problem. I cannot see any libpth20-devel-2.0.0-1mdk or libpth14-devel-1.1.1-4mdk when I issue the command rpm -qa/sort/less. I see all the other packages fine.

Still need some help.

If you do not have libpth20-devel or libpth14-devel installed but /usr/bin/pth-config exists then maybe /usr/bin/pth-config did not get deleted when you removed one of the packages. Save /usr/bin/pth-config someplace handy and then delete it. See if that improves the situation.
