My router (linksys wireless G ADSL) assigns an IP address to my Brother MFC3320CN printer. The driver and CUPS wrapper I installed from the Brother site seem to want a static IP address for the printer. When the IP address is configured in CUPS, the printer works fine.
Can anyone tell me how to set up CUPS / printer configuration for a dynamic IP address?
I'm using a very nice Mandriva 2006 and can't see myself wanting to use anything else.
Go to the Brother WEB site and download the Network Users Guide in the Language of your choice. This guide may include usefull information for setting up your printer to use a static IP address.
Thanks Ernie, but I really would like to try the dynamic IP address for my network printer first. If all else fails I will have to give it a static address.
Brian1 - thanks for your suggestion, I went to the site you mentioned, and have been playing around with the cups settings on my linux box. No result yet, but the answer is there somewhere - I have used the printer host name that is in my network set-up, but this is not recognised by Linux (or cups or whatever).
This is the offending line:
Device URI: lpd://BRN_45C0A9/binary_p1
If i replace the hostname with the current static ip address, it works fine so not a real show stopper. But it would be great to have a dynamic address.....
