Question Computer will not auto power-off.

This is not a very significant problem, but I was just wondering what the problem is:

I was running Red Hat 9.0, and I did a complete re-partition/format and installed Mandrake 9.2. It boots up fine. I am using the kernel 2.4.22-10mdk and I also installed kernel 2.4.22p3....ect. to use with PIII processors.

Anyway, when I shutdown the operating system, the processes all shut down without any errors. But then the last thing I see is the phrase 'Power down' and I can hear the hard drive shutting off, but the rest of the computer stays on. I press the power button and nothing happens. I have to press the restart button and then press the power button to get the computer to shut off.

I believe I have tried it both ways: with the bios PnP enabled...and disabled. I have not changed any settings sice I last used Red Hat.

I was just wondering is Mandrake 9.2 actually capable of COMPLETEY shutting off a computer, or is there some way of getting the power button to power off the computer?

I assume this is most likely a problem with the power settings in the bios and I will look into it more....but could this also be a power setting in the operating system?

Thanks

I should probably mention that Red Hat did in fact shut the computer off.

I never had a problem with the computer shutting off when using Red Hat.

I switched over the Mandrake hoping it have better multi-media capabilities and an easier configuration...so far it does. Now if I could only get the power to shut off......

I also have the same problem, now with Mdk 9.2 and previously with Mdk 9.1. I found a thread that suggested I do a modprobe apm but it wasn't deteted on my system. No idea what this is about but I hope it doesn't mean I have to recompile my kernel. If I do that my 3D graphics and settings will probably stuff up. Let me know if ya get this problem solved.

Acpi is just a newer version of apm. My newer box uses acpi to shutdown and my older box uses apm.
