computer just freezes

Like the title say it's just freezing out of nowhere, for no reason that I can see. It's a full lockup so I can't seem to do anything to troubleshoot it. It's happened 3 times now all at different amounts of time after startup and doing different things. The windows boot runs fine.

Mandriva 2005
P4 3.0Ghz

Is this while your attempting to install or Post install... "freezing" although is a word does not help diagnosis much...

oh sorry yeah i should have made this a little clearer. I just figured out it has something to do with sound. I just installed a new sound card CMI8738, plays fine but this last time when I started amarok, it locked up. So is there a log file somewhere on this i could look at?
