Complete Power Down of Computer - Solved
Another problem beaten. I saw questions about this posted over the last few days, and finally resolved the problem. I thought I would post the solution for the benefit of anyone who is still working to resolve this.
The problem? When you select Logout and then Shutdown from the KDE desktop menu, the system shuts down, but ultimately does not power off. You have to manually hit the power button on the PC to turn it off.
The solution? Go to Mandrake Control Center, Boot, Boot Loader. Click the "enable ACPI" box, and then Finish. Restart your system. This resolved the issue for me. Shutdown now powers down the box completely. Simple, but very nice.
I suspect that your BIOS needs to support ACPI - didn't check into this, as I have a pretty recent computer.
Hope this helps.
