chroot and symlink issue...

I am using Mandriva LE 2005 with Proftpd and Gproftpd as a GUI. TLS is also enabled and i can connect all day using an external client. The problems arise when i try to symlink a disk into the ftp root folder. I have tried both of the following methods to symlink:

mount --bind /disks/D/stuff /home/ftp/stuff

or

mount -o bind /disks/D/stuff /home/ftp/stuff

Both methods work immediately. I can login via the client and browse through the folders and files. Unfortunately, the symlink dissapears after time or won't survive a reboot. Now i have heard of people able to make this work, so i am wondering if anyone out there has been successful, please share your thoughts. I have tried it using chroot jail (DefaultRoot ~) enabled and disabled, to no avail. I have also verified the existence of these mount in the /etc/fstab file.

Thanks
