Changing Owner

How do I change the owner in mandriva 2006? I have a folder that I have to put some files, but I get an error message, I'm guessing it's because it says I'm not the owner and only the owner can read/modify.

chown <newuser>:<optional new group.. if you aren't changing the group drop the :> file

man chwon for more info.

You have to be either the current owner or root to do this.
