Angry changing display manger -- mandrake 10.2/mandriva


Im trying to change my display manger from kdm to gdm. it seems not to work, can anyone help me out.

you should just change the default run level to 3 in inittab.. youll see the line that says


#Default runlevel.
then your default... probably 4

change it to say somethin like this

#Default runlevel
id:3:initdefault:

this will give you a text login from there you can run xdm, gdm, kdm, or just startx... this is also helpful if you have a problem in the future with the x server, as it is hard to fix a crashed server if it freezes the system, and if you boot into x then there could be an endless problem..

ps i think kdm needs root...
