Cannot create and Address Book in Kmail version 1.13.3

Mandriva 2010.1 Kmail 1.13.3

I have just installed Mandriva 2010.1 for the first time. this was a fresh install not an upgrade. I have decided to give Kmail a try instead of Thunderbird and am having great difficulty in creating an Address Book.

Each time I try to create one via Tools I get a dialog which says

"Select the address book."

But there are NO address books to select, the box is understandably completely empty. Being asked to select an address book before you have even created one seems perverse.

Does anyone have an idea as to where I am going wrong.

Many thanks in advance,

Tony Littlejohn

See my second post in this thread:

It deals with an upgrade situation, but may give you some ideas on how to proceed.

Jim

Firstly Jim,
Many thanks for your reply. I installed and enabled Nepomuk but to no avail. Then I spotted your reference to setting up a Personal Contacts address book and did so. I then imported my old LDIF file into the Personal Contact address book, created under Thunderbird. I had previously done this when I set up my main ADDRESS BOOK in Kmail so I wasn't doing anything new here.

I closed down Kmail and then restarted it. To my surprise my old LDIF contacts not only appeared in the Person Contacts address book but also in my main ADDRESS BOOK!!
Not only that but if I select TOOLS/ Address Book and then enter a contacts name and then click on the contacts email address a new Compose window appears.

This is just how it should be and I can now move away from Thunderbird which seems to have made transferring emails from one computer to another almost impossible.

Now, how will I carry out such a transfer of emails to another computer running Kmail?

Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction; I would never have got there otherwise.
