cannot access "Home"

hi,
i just installed mandrake 10.1. whenever I click on the Home icon it open a tab on the task manager that says "starting home" but it doen't open. maybe some of you know how i can fix that.

i would also like to know how to edit a read-only file. this is because i installed the nvidia drivers and from the tutorial i got it says that i should edit the file /etc/modprobe.preload and /etc/x11/xf86config.

Thanks for your help...

Mandrake is gnome right? I've seen similar but do not know how to correct.

for editing ro files, do you have permissions? why is it readonly? why not chmod it? If you have root and are using vi(m) you can use :wq! which forces write even when file permissions are 555 etc

cheers:D

i figured out how to edit the file... it was the permissions, so i just logged in as root and it worked fine...

but still...
when i use kde "home" doesnt work but it does with gnome. weird... well maybe it isnt but you are talking with someone with exactly 10 hours of experience with linux. i cant browse my files...

It's a "menu" issue. Edit your menu. I have had that happen numerous times.
