I have windows installed on a couple of SATA Raptors and am tying to install Mandriva 2007.1 in a dual boot on a stand alone PATA drive.....it goes through the motions ....but at reboot it just boots back into windows....no GRUB...no nottin... It does recognize the ICH9P controller, but it would seem it's not able to write anything to the RAID config.... Is it possible to do a dual but with this configuration?

How about Mandriva 2008 and Mandriva 2008 Spring both version do recognize all my distro over different Sata drives and put it the boot options.

This has to do with how GRUB perceives the drive order when installing to the MBR. The mix of SATA and IDE can cause ambiguities and I'm not sure if the RAID makes it worse.
One solution would be to make the PATA (IDE) drive the boot drive (changing the BIOS configuration) and put GRUB in the MBR of that drive. Another option is to use the Windows loader, adding a link to the Linux boot code on the PATA drive. This involves creating the GRUB MBR code and then copying it into the Windows directory and adding a link to it in boot.ini.

I no longer use Windows on my system here, but I did boot linux using NTLDR and the information from this WEB page for a time. I did not have any SATA drives then (and I do not use a RAID configuration here), but I presume the information remains valid.
