First, thanks to everyone for their help so far, my laggardly response has been thanks to starting a new job, where I've been hit by a small tidal wave of work...

I'm trying (right now) to verify my ISOs with the MD5 sum. I've now had the same problem with 2 different sources of ISOs. I've tried to burn a downlaoded version. And I've tried to burn a ISOs from a DVD coverdisk on a UK computer magazine. (Copied from the DVD to HDD, then burnt to CDRW) As the file creation dates were different for the 2 different sources, my guess is that it must be my burning process. I'm using Easy CD Creator V5.3.2.34. Any Idea of what settings I should use in that to ensure a correct burn of the CD?

I can't check my MD5 using Linux, as Linux is dead on my system.

Stu.

I don't know Esay CD at all, but if you run into problems all the time, and you don't know what the problem is, it could be wise to order the CDs from one or other website.
It will cost you about 5 to 10 dollar, and a delivery time of 4 to 5 days.
look for Mandrake 9.2.1 ( it got all the latest fixes )
thats what i personally would do .

What ever, keep us posted.
we are a helpfull bunch of coconuts sometimes.

Getting worse and worse. And I'm now almost certain my CD writer is dying, as I've tried to write new CDs from the same ISOs and CD1 now dies even earlier in the install process, CD3 keeps being recognised by the CDRW as a music CD...

After testing the 10.0 Beta I reinstalled 9.2 on both my machines. The first was just like the problems your having. Couldn't get past the package installation, Tried a second time couldn't even get the machine to read the cd's. So I burned a second copy on a different brand of cd's. The system installed in about 20Min with no problem. The second machine read the first set of cd's with no problems and was also installed in about 20Min. So try a different brand of cd's first.

not your cd drive

Hey guys, I'm new here by default of having the same problem as you all are having. However, I'm installing Mandrake 9.2 on a PII Dell Optiplex GX1 off of a second hard drive and am having the same exact issues. I get to choose the packages I want and then the next screen shows that its going to start the intsall and then bombs out saying that there was a problme installing "such-and-such" package. All the way through all of them.

So I don't think it's your CD-ROM or the .iso that you downlaoded. SOmething else is going one here that no one has figured out yet. But I'm saying screw it and giving up and going to try SUSE. This is way too much work to get an OS up and running.

Big thumbs down. :^P

In some case your right and some your wrong. I suggest you try the easiest first. If it is the cd incompatibility then you will have the same problems no matter which distro you try. joe_pc it sounds like you give up to easy.
