can't change permissions for samba mounted floppy

Hi! I have configured samba to share the floppy on one of my machines (powered by MDK10). On my other machine, I've mounted it successfully however I can't configure the permissions of the mount directory to allow all users to read, write and execute. By default, it only allows other users outside root to read and execute. I've changed the permissions of the mount directory (777) but when I mount the samba floppy, it returns to the 755 state on my other machine.
How can I share it to allow all users to write? These are my settings:

smb.conf file (truncated)
comment = Floppy on BESTPC
path = /mnt/floppy
guest ok = yes
writeable = yes
browseable = yes
public = yes

directory permissions (mnt directory -- truncated)
total 13
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 7168 Apr 13 03:29 floppy/

ON CLIENT MACHINE (mnt directory -- truncated)
before mount
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4096 Apr 13 03:41 floppy/
after mount
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 Apr 13 03:58 floppy/

I don't mind alternatives as long as I can mount a network directory with 777 permissions. I don't know how to use NFS. Is it a better alternative?

If both machines are running Linux then I find NFS to be better. Check out for all that you need. I run Fedora & am unfamiliar with Mandrake but I'm sure it'll have a GUI config of some sort. Fedora has /usr/bin/system-config-nfs which makes things very easy, but manual config is quite easy also.
NFS is fairly simple but when you first mount it BE PATIENT!! I made this mistake when I first started messing around with NFS, it takes several minuets to mount on my 10/100 network.

Thanks for the information fuzz*. I've not yet gotten a hang of NFS but I hope to catch up on it. Thanks for trying. Have a nice day
