Browsing /mnt directory takes LONG time
Hi group!
The title may be a bit misleading...
I'm on MDK 9.1 (all updates, etc...) and whenever I attempt to navigate to the /mnt directory it takes literally about 3 to 5 minutes to open up. It eventually DOES open, just takes minutes at a time to go in there. And the hard drive is spinning all that time as if it's searching or waiting for something.
Even if I try to open up other file browser windows, they are delayed until the original file browser window completes my request to see the directory contents.
I can terminal in and move around all I want, it just seems to be an issue with the GUI file browser.
Any inkling as to what might cause this behavior?
I'm somewhat of a newb with this Linux stuff, but I can get around fairly well. So fire away!!!
TIA!

Not an answer, but I have noticed the same thing on Mandrake 9.2. I wouldn't say 3-5 minutes, but at least 30 secs to get a listing.

Disable supermount and mount manually. Other way is setting mountpoints to somewhere else, ie. in to root /cdrom, /cdrom2 and so on.

Cool! Didn't think to try that.
Thanks, I'll give it a go.

Well, actually, I went into my /etc/fstab file and changed my supermount entries to auto.
Here are the two lines previously ...
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom supermount user,iocharset-iso8859-1,codepage=850,ro,umask=0 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy supermount user,iocharset-iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850,ro,umask=0 0 0
...and then AFTER changing supermount to auto...
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto user,iocharset-iso8859-1,codepage=850,ro,umask=0 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto user,iocharset-iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850,ro,umask=0 0 0
Hope that helps?!

As root 'supermount -i disable'. Any time you want to enable it, 'supermount -i enable'. You may need to reboot afterwards.

What exactly is supermount? And what difference will disabling, or setting it to "auto", make?

At a terminal screen type...
$ man supermount
and read to your heart's content. It's all in there.
