brother hl-2040 printer doesn't connect`
having trouble with a new brother hl-2040 printer. seems it should work as
there are testimonials to its successful use in the hcl and brother supplies their own linux drivers. running through cups i get the info that the job has been successfully printed but, in fact, nothing has come out of the printer. plenty of paper, that's not the problem. yes it's plugged in. get the same info when connected to either the parallel or usb port. yes, i changed the settings when i switched. the printer seems to be receiving nothing from the computer even though the computer seems to be detecting the printer. printer also prints a test page from its own front panel just fine. when it enters sleep mode, which it does after every test since it thinks it's not getting anything to print, i press a front panel button to awaken it and each time i do this it prints a beautiful test page so i know the printer is capable of some kind of printing. if i send a page to the printer while it is in sleep mode it does not awaken; another reason i think there is some kind of communication problem. any help is much apreciated, BabaG |
never mind. got it working. originally used the mandriva installer which
started installing the driver, then found a dependency, installed it, then installed the driver. went back and uninstalled everything. brother site says to install the lpr driver first. very important. i thought that's what the dependency mandriva found was. if it was, something got messed up in the process. went back and separately downloaded the lpr driver and printer driver, then installed each individually. everything works fine now. haven't done refined tests but it's printing, rather nicely, i might add. |
