Hi,

I had Ferdora Core 5 on my system and when I used the Mandrive 2007 Free edition it recognized FC5 and offered two options: 1. Upgrade FC5 to Mandriva, and, 2. Install Mandriva.

I selected option 1.

It all went fine, it removed a lot FC5 files, then it installed mdk files.

At the end it failed updating the bootloader. It said it can not find the 'root device'.

I also tried the rescue thing from the Mandriva DVD and then I chose to reinstall-bootloader it still fails. Now when try to boot from hdd it still shows Fedora boot menu (grub), but everything fails.

How can install or fix (grub) the bootloader?

says the hda1 is 'boot', and hda2 is 'lvm'

It fails because it is using your old Fedora menu.lst file to try and boot Mandriva. You'll have to use a rescue session to edit it manually or do likewise with a LiveCD. In any case check the contents of that file and see if your old Fedora kernel info is still listed therein instead what would be expected from Mandriva.
