booting up 10.0

first off, I am a linux :newbie: . I installed winXP and then 10.0 and it worked fine. but now it hangs when it activates swap partitions. Could maybe hte problem be with norton becuase i believe that it stopped working after i installed it but i am not sure if that is the problem.

that might be a good guess. Norton, & other anti virus software will check the MBR for boot sector viruses. ironically (or sadly) if you allow a Linux install to write to the MBR, most anti virus programs will detect that as a virus attack & try to prevent/correct it. i'd try going into Norton, disabling boot sector scanning & protection. try rebooting. if it still hangs, pop in the MDK install CD, hit F1, then type rescue at the prompt. choose the "repair bootloader" option & let it rewrite MBR, then try booting again.

would it work if reinstalled 10.0 and didnt put the bootloader in the MBR and put it on a floppy?
