I would love to try it out with a bootable Grub floppy!

It will tell me exactly what is wrong with the system. How to make a Grub floppy and to use it on a Lilo system are all described in the "Just booting tips".

If your persist with the existing setup then I would recommend you to try to boot it up manually with a Grub floppy.

As far as I am aware if a Linux can be seen, say by mounting its partition, and has the necessary kernel and ramdisk files inside then it can be booted. If the kernel panics it is another matter.

I got it working. I use a second PSU, powering up the drives on the controller card after the bios is finished doing its job. a friend told me he had similar problems and that was his solution.
