I spent last week with OpenSUSE 10.2 on my main box, it wasn't that bad, but Yast is a pain in the b** ! I am finally back to my good ol'MDV Free 2007, well tweaked, and wanted to give you that feedback. MDV is much faster, easier to tweak to your own need. MDV is simply better in my view.
I do however still use Ubuntu on my laptop, and Vector on simpler desktops, but MDV gives me the best for my main desktop.
Do you mean YAST as a whole or the software management tool? If you mean the software management part, then I suggest you try it out without using the ZMD backend. It works pretty well, just like urpmi.
i've been using opensuse for quite some time now. I agree about Yast package mgmt, but SMART is very easy to work with.
I love the look of Mandriva, have install MD One 2007 on my main box at home WITH the nvidia drivers detected and used right off the bat. I tried running the live cd on my laptop, also pci-e with Nvidia and cannot get it to recognize my screen. Just get a distorted, line covered screen. I've been thrilled with how opensuse 10.2 handled all my hardware and wireless, but I do think I would switch to Mandriva Free 2007 if I could get MDV One to work on the laptop. Too chicken to just try installing it with everything working so well with Opensuse right now.

well, reddazz, I actually followed your guide to add sources to the repos, and it didn't really worked...
Being an end-user who used to bitch about URPMI, being slower than APT, I can now say that APT is the best, but URPMI much better than Yast.
Now, just as you mentionned, I haven't tried out without using the ZMD backend... Maybe I didn't spend enough time... I usually do most updates thru CLI, and I wish they would all be easy like APT...
I still have a question about the mplayer plugin : I have sound, but no image !
Maybe I should start a thread about that... (this is in MDV 2007 Free, in FF & Konqueror, all uromi well configured & updated, with the new Adobe Flash 9)...

Let me answer my own question, as it might help a future reader : I realised afterwards that I had not installed the win32 codecs. So I did it, and everything worked perfectly !!!
