Auto Login broken with 10.1
Has anybody else had their automatic login broken after installing Mandrake 10.1?
It does me no good to reset it in the Login Manager as it still doesn't work. It worked perfectly in 10.0.
Any ideas?
- Jack

I had the exact same problem as the poster above. Also submitted details to Mandrake.

I had that problem when I installed KDE 3.3. After changing the display manager from XDM to KDM in Mandrake control center, the problem was solved. Try it, it can not do any harm!

I don't know how in god's name you figured this out but it worked!!! In my case, I had to switch from mdkKDM to KDM. What's the difference between these two btw?

How in god's name did I figure that out? Another Mandrakelinux user told me that.
What is the difference? I don't have a clue.

MdkKDM is the mandrake version of the KDE display manager that only gives a simplified login screen (don't know what other changes they've made to it.) KDM is the *REAL* KDE Display manager that comes as part of KDE. Likewise GDM is the Gnome version.

When I upgraded to KDE3.3 my autologin worked, but my keyboard did not. The only way I could get the keyboard to work is use XDM, when I use KDM everything starts fine but the keyboard will not work.

Thanks for the tip.....
.....I was pulling the last few hairs that I have out, because after I did the upgrade to KDE 3.3 I also had the problem that the keyboard was not respondign at all. After I switched to XDM, the problem went away.
does anybody know if there is a fix for that sot aht we can switch back again to use the KDM?
Brgds

Under /etc/kde/kdm/, check your kdmrc file under [X-*-Core]
Original:
SystemPath=/usr/X11R6/bin/
UserPath=/usr/X11R6/bin/
Edited:
SystemPath=/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin/
UserPath=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin/
I haven't upgrade to 3.3 yet, but ever since upgrading from kdebase-3.2.3-95 to the current cooker kdebases, I have found that kdmrc had been altered, which wouldn't allow me to login in with mdkkdm nor kdm. I, among others, have reported this annoyance to the cooker bugzilla, but it seems to go unanswered. Nevertheless, xdm does work, but I like eyecandy.
