Audio CD Problem

I'm new to the Linux world. I just loaded Mandrake 9.2. So far I really like it, and everything seems to be working great except when I try to play audio cd's. When I put a audio CD in the drive and start the CD player and hit play it seems to freeze. Also the drive itself becomes locked and I can't open it to get the CD out until I shut the computer off.

Has anyone else had this problem or know what I need to do?

I don't know if this will help, but try hitting alt+F2 and typing xmms /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd and see if that works.

Have a look in your /etc/fstab file.It should look something like this.:

/dev/hda5 / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-
1 0 0
none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,syn
c,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda10 /usr ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hda7 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hda9 swap swap defaults 0 0

Cheers

I managed to get things working finally. After doing alot of searching I came across some some other people who were having the same problem. The root of the problem is that most PC makers are rather cheap and are not including the little cable that connects the CD drive to the sound card. The most common solution seemed to be installing the xmms player which apparently works like Windows Media Player. So I installed it and I am able ot listen to audio CD's no problem now.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I must say it's easier to get help with Linux then it is with Windows.

The fact you got help that worked is a far site better the the typical windows help answer" reboot" or "uninstall and reload"
