Ati driver installation under 10.1-- Is there a guide?


ive got a radeon 9800 and would like to get OpenGL going

Im using the 10.1 official install

Is there a guide or "step by step" to installing the ati drivers under Xorg 6.7?

There is a driver directory on either the DVD or one of the CD's.

First determine which kernel you have installed.

E.G.

uname -a

then use the result to find the corresponding files.

I.E.

ATI-KERNEL-2.6.8-12mdk (or whatever it is...)

Install these files


urpmi ATI-kernel-2.6.x.xmdk ATI-driver-2.6.x.xmdk kernel-source-2.6.xmdk

This will install the AGP and other ATI kernel level modules required as well as the ATI driver set.

Now try running X.

Worst case reconfigure by terminating the display manager...

flip to the console [CTRL][ALT][F1]

log in as root and type

service dm stop

Now run XFDrake and select your configuration, TEST each change or setting before you exit.

Save it and restart the DM with

service dm start

That's it.
