Archiving Email Files ?
I have a question, is there anyway to archive email files saved in Kontact, if so, what is the best way to do this? Is there anyway you can select them all and burn them on a CD for future viewing?

The short answer is yes.
All your mail is in the directory ~/Mail (or maybe ~/.Mail - you may have to turn on "view hidden files" in konqueror to see your .mail directory). The format of your mail depends on whether you chose "maildir" or "mbox" format for your mail. The layout is quite easy to understand: Have a nosey around.

I tried ~/mail and nothing showed even by selecting view hidden files. Now I did see ~mail and opened that up but never saw anything that looked like email.

Inside ~mail are some:
-index files: these do not matter, they will be recreated as necessary.
-directories: These correspond to your mailbox names. Inside these directories are further directories: the subdirectory cur has the current mail for that directory. The mail files have strange names, but you can open them with an editor.
As I said, have a nosey around the ~mail/* files: you will soon work out which files to archive, and realise that you need to delete a mailfolder's index file, so it can be recreated correctly, after you have added or removed (archived) messages. Obviously, you should not make changes to the structure of ~mail/ whilst you are using your mail application, or things might get in a muddle!

I remember asking that same question,"is there anyway to archive email files saved in Kontact". Although I think it was Evolution I used back then.
Just a thought for consideration:
I find web based email the best solution. Gmail being my preference.
Since I like to try each and every new Mandriva version as soon as it comes out, it saves me fussing with trying to save email.
If I bugger my system, I can still boot with Knoppix or other live distro and have full access to my email this way.
I keep an up to date copy of my browser bookmarks, and full email contact list archived in my gmail account, again if system gets buggered, it is still there.
Access to gmail is super fast, has 2 gigs of storage and will allow 10 meg attachments to be sent.
It has a great email labeling system for keeping your archives organized.
Gmail notifiers are a feature that none other has and I use extensively. (Want to stay on top of what is going on with past work place?, set up a notifier using the name of that business, and every time google comes across an article, news paper article etc, you get an email with link to let you know from google.

Well I would like to save some emails in the event I need I need to reread them. When I say or use they term "archiving", I mean burning them onto a CD, so I can posssibly look at them at a later time frame. With Windows (sorry), you can just drag them over to your desk top and burn them. It is time consuming and was wondering if the same could be done with Mandriva.

To answer your original question:
6.4. Where does KMail save my settings and my mail?
Most KMail settings are stored in $KDEHOME/share/config/kmailrc, where $KDEHOME is typically ~/.kde; the identities are stored in $KDEHOME/share/config/emailidentities and your mail is saved in $KDEHOME/share/apps/kmail (or ~/Mail if you upgraded from a previous KMail version that used this location.) Note that some of the files are hidden: remember to also copy those if you want to backup or archive your mails.
