If urpmi say another package is needed then install it first or if it suggests it, accept it. By the way including error information enables people to respond to you more accurately.

Did you START it?

It doesn't start by itself.

Once it's started you can check which processes are running by typing

ps -aux

in a console.

Re: openft

Read the docs.

I don't use it, but these packages do have documentation.

It's there for a purpose.

Again, if you take a good 20 minutes (if that) to rtfm, (read the manual) then chances are you are going to find a solution before we help you find one.

I did the giftd -v command in konsloe and this is what I got;

[administrator@MTS administrator]$ giftd -v
[16:35:19] giftd 0.11.7 (Aug 29 2004 21:37:21) started
[16:35:19] *** GIFT-ERROR: bind: Address already in use
[16:35:19] *** GIFT-FATAL: Failed to load interface subsystem

NOTE:
There may be another giFT daemon running on this host. Check to see if the
interface port (1213) is currently in use by another process.

[16:35:19] *** Often times more information can be found in the log file or with the -v command line switch.
[administrator@MTS administrator]$

i'm guessing theres an error and how do I fix it?

Here's a novel idea:

Why don't you post the contents of the error log?!!

True, I don't expect you to know a whole lot, but when a command outputs that kind of information, I think you're smart enough to realize it's important...

... when you checked ps -aux you should of been checking for giftd running not openft

close apollon and try running giftd -v again and see if it starts correctly... that error suggests that it was already running

also i think your problem can probably be fixed by closing apollon, deleting ~/.giFT/openFT/nodes and restarting it
... make sure you have the latest versions of apollon and giFT
