Another sound issue...10.1

I know this sound questions are a plenty, but...
I had 10.0 installed for a little while and had fixing that sound issue down. I would install xmms and it would NOT work as user until I installed xmms-alsa and changed xmms to use alsa.
Now I installed 10.1 and all the above packages and still no sound. Also no sound in Mplayer with dvds.
Any tips??
Thanks!!!

What is your hardware? Which desktop (KDE, Gnome) are you using?

The only thing for XMMS is to uninstall, reboot, reinstall xmms and xmms-alsa (at least that worked for me), and don't forget to go into Options > Preferences and make sure it's using the ALSA plugin. I've always had problems with the OSS compatibility part.

As for Mplayer, you may need the aa52 library, as well as possibly some of the mpeg libraries as well.

Personally, instead of Mplayer, I use Totem, and have the libdvdread and libdvdcss libraries installed. Libdvdread is on the MDK CD's, but you'll have to get libdvdcss from the Penguin Liberation Front or compile and install from source yourself. I've done it both ways and it works great.

Hope this helps.
