Annoying KDE crash alert and endless timer in taskbar question.
I have mandriva 2006 installed and I love it but I have 2 problems.
1.After I update(I checked all available),not immediatly but within a few hours of use I start getting kde crash alerts.Signal 11,SIGPFE if I remember correctly. I managed to do a backtrace and saw a few qt entries. I can knock the alerts down to the taskbar but the crash alerts increase in frequency from 1 every 5 seconds to ? thousands per second?Once they start I have about 2 minutes before they are so fast they freeze my system.Cursor wont move.I can restart and get about 2 more minutes of lagged use before freeze. I've re-installed twice and this doesnt start until I update.Last time I only choose security updates and bug fixes. 2.With a "stock" install(no updates)when I start a program the hourglass starts working in the taskbar. The programs open(doesnt matter which one),I use them, and then close them and the hourglass is still spinning until I guess the default timer expires(About 30 seconds)then it will go away,or if the program is still open it changes to the normal box w/program name. This is what I was trying to fix by updating. It does get fixed by the way but soon after the crash alert mudslide hits. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks |
Mandriva freezes, kat, SIGPFE 8 and/or 11
Hi,
I know this post is about a year late, but maybe I can help someone else with the same problem. I had a similar problem, and it's most likely a problem with 'kat'. kat is a nightmare and should be removed, at least in my opinion. My notebook used to freeze after a few minutes with the same problem. I had to log in as a different user to remove kat since the desktop froze up.
