After update I can't see my Fuji digital camera anymore
I'm using Mandriva 2009 Spring. I had plugged in my Finepix 2800 Zoom a few times before, and used Digikam to download the photos to an album. Also, I could see the camera with Dolphin. After updating, I can no longer see the camera. My Digital Camcorder is still seen, and I can download from it. It pops up as a recently plugged in storage device, but not the Fuji.
Where would be a good place to start, so that I can get my images off the camera before the card fills up?
First of all, plug the Finepix, and open a konsole. Run the command 'lsusb' as root and see if the camera is seen on the USB bus. You should see something like this...

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
If you do not see the camera here, you need to look into the modules loaded for USB.
Run the command 'lsmod | grep usb' and you should see see...
Many thanx for the reply. I don't see anything in for the Fuji.
Here is the output from the Konsole session.

I think there may be a problem with the cable, as my other Linux box doesn't see it either. The dislay on the camera switches to the USB mode when plugged in, but that doesn't mean its good.
Personally, I use a cheap external card reader. I take the card out of the camera, plug into the reader then plug into a USB port. This saves the camera's batteries and works fine with digiKam.
I have to agree with rich_c, card readers available at most camera stores, and are not expensive. I have one for my camera, even though the camera works on the USB cable. The memory camera mounts easily in linux, then you can just drag and drop the photos you want with your favourite file management program.
