ADM8211 Wireless Card

I have managed to install the source for lmandrake 9.2 ,

I have done the symlink to linux-2.4

i type make for the 8211 driver and it comes back with one error , syntax error 300 in /usr/src.../module.h before UTS_RELEASE

If I edit this file and delete or put " " marks around UTS_RELEASE then it compiles but then if i do an insmod 8211.o it fails saying 8211.o: Couldn't find the kernel version the module was compiled for.

so obviously i have to fix the error somehow , obviously i have to leave module.h in its orignal form with UTS_RELEASE intact. I dont know what to do anymore can someone help me overcome this syntax error

insmod -f doesnt work either.

thanks

Are you sure the kernels agree?

I had problems getting the driver to work when the kernel sources I had grabbed were for a different version of the kernel than the one the target system was running. Mandrake 9.2 has a couple of variants (-mdk10, -mdk22 if I recall), where the original one had the LG CD-ROM bug, and the latter one had it patched. The driver is too picky and has to be compiled for the running kernel.

Search for an ADMtek 8211 thread with my handle (isdnip) and you'll see how it played out. It worked reasonably well for a while, though now I've switched that machine to Mepis and it has trouble doing " iwconfig eth0 ", I think because the ADMtek driver wants to call itself Ethernet, and the wireless tools in Mepis don't normally work on Ethernet. That was not a problem with Mandrake.

i canned 9.2 .. stupid picky version. The kernel and source were the same

uname -r reported the same as ln -l /usr/source

thanks for your reply

i am now running fudora 1 (red hat) , installed WITH source on cd, typed make for the adm8211 driver it compiled instantly and insmod 8211.o saw it working in in less than 2 minutes.

what a joke.

3 days with 9.2 pullling my hair out with d3a signitures bad, md5 digest, bad magic , wrong kernel version, etc and red hat says done in two minutes.
