Adding resolutions

Hi
I have added some modelines to my xorg.conf to be able to use the right refresh rates with my monitor. I works fine, but I can not add more than one mode in the "screen" section in xorg.conf. An example:

Section "Screen"
Identifier "screen1"
Device "device1"
Monitor "Samsung 959 NF"
DefaultColorDepth 24

Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x960"
EndSubsection
EndSection

If I want another resolution I do like this:

Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x960" "1600x1200"
EndSubsection

But when I boot the next time the screen is very strange - like the desktop is too big for the monitor so you have to pan around with the mouse.

So my question is: how do I add more than one mode ?

Maybe either you have the wrong monitor refresh rates or your monitor doesn't support that high a resolution.

No, thats not it, because if I do like this it works:

Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024"

It seems you to put the biggest resolution first, but when you do that you desktop is "1600x1200", which is a little big I think, but I would like to use it in some games. Is it not possible to add a high resolution to use in games, but without using it as desktop resolution?
