Add ReiserFS package destroys non-ReiserFS partitions
I was adding a harddrive to serve as a backup. Decided to format it as ReiserFS (3). Everything seemed to work well until I rebooted.
fsck.reiser seemed to kick in and start repairing the wrong partition. In the process it destroyed much of the directory structure.
Removed reiser.
Now fsck reports "error, short read when trying to read i-node" and requires it run in manual mode.
I can access about the first 53% of the disk just fine. I want to know if I can get to the last 40+%. If I mount without a check, I can only traverse the directory structure so far until I get input/output error.
Can I fix one inode at a time - specifically the directory ones.
Is there a way to gather as many good inodes as possible?
I have a backup but its on windows and it looses file permissions and link information (CVS is hosed).
Any suggest on a quick, if only partial, recovery is appriciated.
