been trying to get acrobat reader running (acroread) on 9.1 for ages .
I have uninstalled and reinstaled it several times .
it starts loading then just stops .
weird..

Try opening it on the command line and see if it shows any errors there. It sounds like you are missing some dependences that the installation might not mention.

If you installed MDK with utf-8 language settings (seems to be so), you might find a solution in this thread.
It's the fourth reply on that page I think.
