acpi on mdk 10.1/HP Pavillion

Hi,

I've installed MandrakeLinux 10.1 on my HP Pavillion ze4500 and have generally gotten everything to work smoothly - except the acpi. If I activate it, Mandrake refuses to start up. Anyone got any pointers on how to get it to work?

The noise from the fan really is starting to distract me...:-(

ACPI -WILL- work on the ZE4xxxx series but you must specify nolapic and noapm on the kernel startup parameters.

Hint: edit /etc/lilo.conf and look for the append line... then run Lilo...

Search for the thread I answered a question about the Dell Truemobile drivers on the ZE51xx series.

I wrote up a complete configuration walkthrough for the ZE series which applies to you.

I didn't find the post ou mentioned, but I found something else on the net. So, I changed the lilo.conf append line to:

append="nolapic devfs=mount pci=noacpi apm=off acpi=on pmdisk=/dev/hda5 resume=/dev/hda5 splash=silent"

and Mandrake boots up fine, with acpi enabled. However, when I go check the battery level, I'm being told that APM or ACPI is not installed or not found in the kernel. So I don't know if acpi really is installed...Maybe I need to do somethig else too to get acpi to work?

Eh, this should be removed... pci=noacpi

It turns OFF acpi
