Question About to Install Mandrake 10 on old Dell...

Hello. I am new to Linux OS's. I recently downloaded Mandrake 10, SuSe 9.1 Personal and LiveCD, and even Fedora ISO's. I am not really familiar with any of these but I am going to try to install Mandrake. From what I have heard and read, it won't be a bad choice.
I have several computers in my house. Three have WinXP, one has WinME but I upgraded to WinXP, and the other has Win98. The Win98 is just used for little things like word processing and such. It's for my kids.
The other computers are all networked together and are you capable of the internet with DSL. I have a US Robotics USR8054 wireless router/AP and of course the Sprint DSL modem. I haven't networked my laptop wirelessly though. Everything is only networked by LAN lines.
Anyway, I am going to use an old Dell setup that has a PIII 1.0-Ghz, 256-Mb RAM, not sure on the video card, sound card, or NIC but it does have a 19" monitor. Oh, and it has a 20-Gig Hd but I am just going to use an old 10-Gig HD that has been formatted with nothing on it.
Any tips on installing these ISO's onto my pc? I am hoping I downloaded everything that I need to load Mandrake or another Linux Distribution to this pc. I am not really sure on what all I need. I have the ISO's for Mandrake (as well as the others) but would there be anything else I need?
I am hoping to do this install in a few days. Most likely around Saturday.
Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciative.
PM or email me at jhhammond1@earthlink.net
Thanks.
BTW, I am a

james33440; suggest & advice check all equipment for compatibility via ;
thhp://tldp.org/HOWTO/HARDWARE-HOWTO/index.html and LQO,s HCL-
linuxquestions.org Hardware Compatibility List also enter all of them so that if ones not known developers, compliers may work on providing drivers
that are not linux friendly. do this before installing any os. if not supported by linux os,s u may have problems so please do this to avoid them!

Well, I went ahead and checked the ISO's and they are the correct files. So, I burnt them to a disk and I am actually uploaded the first disc as we speak to my old Dell pc. So far so good.
I'll let everyone know how the upload goes.

well, everything went great
only downside, I can't get the DSL to work
I don't know if my NIC driver is even compatible or even there
It's a Linksys 10/100 internal card but I am not sure which kind.
When I do the PPPoE setup it just timesout.

james33440; how about using the LQO howto,s since u have expierence with what ur attempting to do. this should guide & help: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDEX & http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Hardware/html. last one is compatibility of devices.
advise check devices first & avoid problems later.
