Hi

I've just got a new PC of my own and as I'd liked to install MDK on it I'm just wondering if that might work!
My hardware is:

ABIT IC7-MAX3, 1GB RAM , NVidia FX 5900, 4x160GB SATA ( set as RAID on Sil3114 ), SB Audigy 2 ZS, 1MBit LAN ( onboard )

I had MDK 8 on my old PC and all went fine but even then I'd many problems get Linux running. ( ATA 100 wasnt really supported then... )

Will MDK 9.2 work on my new PC? or do I have to wait 1 year till linux get the needed drivers???

Hi,

I can't recommend it at this time. I have a Dual Opteron Tyan Thunder K8W w/ SiI3114 RAID controller, and also trying to run a 1+0 sataRAID. The Linux drivers on the Silicon Image webpage (they say they are 64 bit, but I'm not sure I believe them) are beta only as of Dec 12 2003, and so far as I can tell support only RedHat, SuSe and the United distros. I haven't tried a Mandrake install with these. The drivers work enough that I can get RedHat 8 to see the drives, and can do an install. But the RAID features don't seem to be totally working...it seems to randomly drop one or two drives from the RAID (as seen through the BIOS utility, since there is as far as I can tell no Linux equivalent of the windows sataRAID support software). It still functions though, just no mirroring. I would love to hear if someone gets it working with Mandrake, since my apps are partially married to the Mandrake distro....
