...aaaand the internet stops working

This is easily the most baffling impediment to my linux enjoyment yet: I had my system sompletely set up, everyting worked fine. (cept my sound card wasn't configured.) So, I try to reboot the machine and put in the install CD and attempt to reconfigure the sound card (which is a Sound Blaster, which I understand usually works well with Mandrake) but I see no sound card option. (Though that a differen matter all together.) Anyway, it finishes it's upgrade, I take out the disc and reboot. I get back onto my KDE desktop, and... I can't get online. SO I go to the Internet section of the Syetm Configuration, and I change the protocol from eth0 to eth1. I go back to firefox, lo and behold I am connected. Fine. But then later I rebooted again, only to find that the internet is out yet again. However, in the system configuration area, I see no option between eth0 and eth1 as there was before, just 1 option "ethernet" which is the only protocol i can choose from. Can anyone possibly guess as to WHAT happened and how can I possibly fix it? Thanks immensely....

Which soundcard and which version of Mandriva?

I have an Aureal Vortex2 (soundblaster) which came with a Win98se machine and which didn't work in linux until Mandrake 10.1. No other distro - I tried redhat, fedora, slackware, knoppix etc etc etc.

Now I dual-boot with XPPro, and it won't use my sound card so Mandriva is the only OS to give me sound.

It's the drivers that are missing and Aureal went bust about 1991 or thereabouts. Various people were trying to 'make' drivers but didn't seem to get anywhere. But Mandrake did it! What a surprise when I changed up to that version and got a fanfare the first time I booted up!

I realise I could take my mandrake driver to another distro.

Post your /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 (if it exists) files. Also post the output of the command
