A process I have to kill "neopomukservices"

Hello,
I have been facing a lot of linux crashes lately, I thought it was while using Opera, but I found out that these crashes are not dependant on a specific application. so, I started to monitor the System Activity and found that there is a process called neopumukservices that pops at the top of the process as the one using a lot of CPU and after killing it everything is back to normal and BTW there is two process of that same name running

how can I stop this process from eating my resources and is there any damage that I am doing by killing this process?

Thanks a lot.

Doesn't ring a bell but doesn't look like some ordinary servicename either. Could you give us some more hints? As root run
Code:
pgrep -f neopumukservices|xargs -ix lsof -P -w -n -p 'x' 2>&1>>/tmp/lsof.log
, then post the contents of /tmp/lsof.log.

Hi, that is part of yet another "desktop indexing service".

You might find the control for it in the Mandriva control panel.

I just have mine turned off, but you might un-install it.

Regards, Glenn

p.s.
The indexing should stop once the initial scan is complete, It generally only scans ~/user
unless you change it, ie, /etc/*

You will still be able to use "locate" to find files anywhere on the system.
You can update it's database with "updatedb", it only takes a few minutes because
it is looking for file names, not the contents of files.

Thank you for your replies and sorry for the late feedback.

I have stopped the service of the control center but the computer froze again, I got tired of that so i created a new account but at sometimes I feel it is really slow and I can not seem to find the reason the top process was the krunner using 12% of the CPU

I am using and Acer Extensa 5220 1.86GHz, 512MB Ram

what can I do about this?
