9.2 or better wait for 10?
I currently have Mandrake 9.1, nVidia drivers installed properly. I am considering downloading the 9.2 iso's and give it a try. However, I wonder whether this is a good idea. The downloadable 9.2 iso's seem to be from November 2003. So I suppose the updates after that (apparently there were quite some problems with 9.2) have not been incorporated into these iso's. Is this correct and do I risk downloading a buggy distribution? Perhaps I'd better wait for Mandrake 10, or I could give the beta a try.
Thanks, Tijs |
Apparently you have to be a club member (our forum sponsor) to get the updated 9.2 download edition.

All distros have bugs. If you go for 9.2, after doing a Software Update, all the bugs are sorted. However, 10.0 is rattling along at quite a rate - beta 2 is already out. Given that it's got KDE 3.2 and a 2.6x kernel, I would suggest waiting for it. I have 9.1 on my main machine and 9.2 on my others. I don't think it's worth upgrading to 9.2 for a month or so. Of course, you may think differently.:)

I'll try the beta
OK. Actually, right now I'm downloading the ISO's of MDK 10 beta 2. Of course there will be bugs in it, but apparently even this beta version runs quite well, according to some people.
Perhaps it's not a good idea for a newbie like me to experiment with beta's, but I suppose I can't do much wrong (if so, please warn me...). I want to see how fast it is (kernel 2.6), and KDE 3.2 seems nice too. Anyway, let's hope MDK beta 2's LILO works (I heard things to the contrary on some boards). T. |
I have it installed on a second machine. It's fine. Has trouble with my usb printer, but apart from that it's actually very polished.
