3Q's: TV Tuner, source installs, PHP for users
I have three questions, and I figured I'd put 'em all in one post...worse comes to worse, I'll have to repost again somewhere else. So, here goes:
1. I have a Hauppage WinTV Go Plus TV-Tuner (it comes with a remote). Mandrake automagically setup KDETV but it's not working. I've installed tvtime and can't get it to work, either (although it's a ****load easier to work with!). I've tried doing modprobes and the like, but I can't be sure about my tuner (I'm pretty sure the card number is 10, since it's a bt878 card). Does anyone know what tuner I can use with this (EDIT: 2 doesn't seem to work. It appears to be the NTSC equivalent to the HCL entry, so...)? I'm in the US, so I need a US-compatible NTSC tuner number. Also, is there something else I might be missing with this? I'm totally lost.
More details: On the "box" that has the coax/tv-out, it says NTSC, 33981, Rev E185. There's a barcode on the back that says 4404 2876402. It's from 2004, so it's a pretty recent card.
2. When installing from source, how does make uninstall work? Meaning, do I have to have the source I installed it from to uninstall it (with all the extra files and whatnot, not just the bare source)? If so, does it have to be in the same directory? I don't really know anything about using make, except for the basic commands of make, make install, make uninstall, and make clean.
3. I do a lot with PHP. However, user sites (ie site.com/~user) on my computer can't use PHP. It can access PHP, but it just throws a permissions error. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I could probably figure it out, but I figured while I was here...
Hopefully I'll get some answers here...I love linux, but these problems are really frustrating me...*sigh*
I just want to use my new TV tuner card...it cost me $40, which is a lot in college-student money. It worked with Windows 2000, so I know it's not a hardware problem...but I'd rather use Linux!

I'll take a shot at the tv tuner problem. By default the card is expected to be /dev/video0. It works for me.........problem is if I have another video device connected, such as my webcam at boot time, the webcam gets assigned /dev/video0 and can't use my tvtuner card. If I boot without any other video devices connected, tv tuner is fine, even if I connect my webcam after it is already booted.
3) Can you run PHP at all (from /var/www/html). If not you probably missed installing the php module
(urpmi apache2-mod_php).
Check if you have a mod_php file in /etc/httpd/conf.d/

With PHP, I forgot to mention that I'm just using the PHP that came with Mandrake. I haven't installed anything. However, it works just fine out of the root web folder - it's only out of user's public_html folders that it doesn't work.
With the card, I'm not on there (and the card's out of the machine...), so I can't test it right now. I'll have to check on that later...
Also, that computer is not online and cannot be online. So, anything I have to do must be done without being online with that machine...
