Hey
When i installed mandriva 2007 the 3d desktop worked fine with the proprietary ATI drivers, apart from due to my chipset (radeon xpress 200m) i could not have a 3d desktop and use a dri accelerated programme (games, googleearth etc) consequently i disabled it for a while. However, now i have come back to enable it again with xgl and compiz (aiglx is not supported so cannot use beryl etc) KDE won't load up and the computer hangs with the busy icon rotating around. The strange thing is though i can login as root, or as a user that i create with no root permissions, just not with my regular account. Consequently i think that it is a problem with permissions of my regular account. Think this is the relevant bit from /var/log/syslog

The termination is done by me with ctrl-alt-del but i have left it idle for a good half hour to no avail. It is the same with GDM/KDM and Gnome/KDE. Anybody got any thoughts?
Cheers
Update:
Must be something to do with the xgl server. I cannot start this as the current user. Does anybody know where the xgl config file is for users?
Has nobody got any ideas on this?? It is really dong my head in as i can't see why one user can't access an Xgl server whilst another with exactly the same permissions can. Idea please, anyone?
If no one is answering, it is because no one has an answer for you. This is not a common issue, or one which has affected many others.
If only one user account is affected, the trouble has to be with that account, not the system as a whole. My best suggestion is:
Log in as root.
Remove the troublesome user account.
Delete the user directory, including all files within that directory - you should back up any original files you do not wish to lose first. Do not back up any configuration files. These will be recreated when you create the user account again.
