2007 and ATI radeon IGP330M/340M/350M on IBM R40e thinkpad some tips

Just tried 2007 free on ATI radeon IGP330M/340M/350M and it did not work first time round (it did with 2006)
Here is how I solved it.This is on IBM R40e thinkpad laptop.

edit: other easier solution: delete xorg.conf
and run drakx11, or simply select normal video screen 1024x768 60Hz, most basic one

The text mode was unavoidable at first
No much luck during install (with the graphics test and driver selection; nothing worked).
For some reason radeon vesa did not work, nor was radeon (as opposed to ati radeon).
The solution was to run xorgconfig (twice !) as root.
The first time I had a "cannot find fixed font"
I am not sure what was completelly changed in xorg.conf, I will post more when I know
(path to font, name of driver, refresh rates, all these AFAI could tell were changed)
WIth drakx11 somebody might have more luck if it is only a question of defining
a custom display (I only tried default flat panel and default 1024*728), do not know.

compiz was not working, I know it is in development so I am not bothered, plus the video card is rather old
(by not working well just imagined windows staining the background and a whitish background not being redrawn
when a )

I have the following message with glxinfo
libgl warning 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b
(more of the same in /var/log/Xorg.0.log)
I get 380 fps with glxgears, dri, drm and glx are loaded.

Anyway this is mostly relevant to people using the same video card
