2006 Free Upgrade to 2007 Free and 2 onthers

I have WinXP and Mandriva 2006 Free installed on my lapttop. I would like to upgrade the 2006 to 2007. I have the 4 discs.

Ther is no upgrade option in the menu (that i can see).

If I run a "new install" will it simply overwrite the old 2006? Or can I simply delete the Linux PArtitions using Gpart??? (If I do this will Windows boot?????)

My main worry is being unable to boot Windows if the installation fails.

1 Other. Very occassionally 2006 simply freezes and the only way I can re-boot is to disconnent mains power and remove the battery. Any ideas here well appreciated.

Laptop is a Tosh, M40x Equium.

2. Other. I have the wirless working, but it is very intermittent on conecting. Often I get "Unable to contact deamon" for several attempts an eventually it will connect. Odd.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Mark

If you want you can enter the cd-rom path and file names to urpmi via mcc (mandriva Control Center), software manager, update/add media/sources. This package improves with every release. Google is your friend, urpmi, and check out urpmi --help and also rpm --help

The option should come near the partitioning stage.

with the madriva cd in rescue mode if everything was going really badly,
you would still be able to reinstall grub, and then edit /boot/grub/menu.lst so it points to Zinblows. You may want to learn the basis of vim editor, or have a gui live cd so you could edit /boot/grub/menu.lst
Anyhow by reinstalling grub there is probably detection of OSs on each partition

Just make a printout of /boot/grub/menu.lst
fear not

Your description was too vague. Try 2007 and see if freeze go away.
Well known freeze with some wireless cards exist

Briliant, many thanks, Emmanual UK, but now I have 2 other problems.

1. My Wireloss ipw2200 does not work. I look for similar postings and found new files the system needs in /lib/firmware. I got the following: ipw2200-firmware-3.0-2plf.noarch.rpm AND ipw2200-firmware-3.0-2plf.src.rpm from planet mirror, but what on earth do I do with them????

Sorry to sound such an idiot, this is all so new.

2.My touchpad works fine, but mu USB mouse is all juttery, unuseable!!!

Love the interface and the installation was almost with out trouble - nearly there.

Mant thanks for any help.
