10.1 screen probs with toshiba 3480CT

I have Mandrake 10.1 installed on my toshiba portege 3480CT.
i installed 2 of the 3 disks and worked out how to manually install the rest of the programs off disk 3 by right clicking on em and then click on Software installer.

However I just cannot get full screen of mandrake 10.1 on my laptop.
it has a black box around it.ie not full screen like i want it to be.
any suggestions?
btw the video card is a savage 8mb on board one.
and it doesn't make it full screen when i change it by the task bar icon either.

I assume you've tried going into drakconf and set the resolution to the one your laptop is supposed to be?

The little blue icon in the taskbar near the clock is the only way i know how to change it.
but it doesn't make it full screen.
im on my L's this is the 1st distro thats worked on my laptop.

i've opened up run and typed drakconf.and im having a look in Monitor currently.
what is the correct setting of res that should it be set to?

Generally laptops are set to 1024x768, unless it's widescreen. Fiddle around if 1024x768 doesn't work ;)

thankyou i fidled with it till i got it working.
1600x1200 flat panel for monitor
and i had to change screen res to 1024x768 and 32 thousand colors (15 bits)
do i need an anti virus.i know mandrake has a firewall shorewall built in.
but every webpage i visit it keeps saying warning this page in unencypted.
btw my security is set to standard.

It's always nice to have antivirus, but I don't have any and I haven't had any problems.
